Randy Pope ’73

Moran M. “Randy” Pope III’s dedication to The University of Southern Mississippi has remained steady since his time as a student on campus.

As a student at Southern Miss, he was president of the Sophomore Class, Omicron Delta Kappa and InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Pope was also a member of the Student Senate and Kappa Sigma fraternity.

After graduation, Pope earned a law degree and returned to Hattiesburg, where he has practiced law since 1979 with his father, Moran Pope, Jr., in the firm of Pope & Pope, P.A.

He has served as president of both the Southern Miss Alumni Association and The University of Southern Mississippi Foundation. He has also served as a member of the Southern Miss Athletic Foundation’s board of directors.  He currently chairs the building committee of the Campaign for the Restoration and Expansion of Ogletree House and he has served and is currently serving on a number of committees of both the Foundation and the Alumni Association. The Association has recognized Pope by inducting him into the Alumni Hall of Fame in 2001 and by presenting him a Continuous Service Award in 2006.

Pope also serves as a member of the Belhaven College Board of Trustees and as a deacon at University Baptist Church.  He was a founding member of the Hattiesburg Area Habitat for Humanity, and he was a member of the inaugural class of the Area Development Partnership’s Leaders for a New Century.

Pope and his wife, Kathy Cook ’74, are Life Members of the Association. The couple has two daughters, Lucy Schultze ’01 and Valerie Nicholson of Jackson.
