The system will automatically match students with all available scholarship funding based on major/minor, grade point average, financial need, student activities and other criteria.

The Alumni Association annually awards more than $20,000 to select children and grandchildren of Southern Miss alumni. The Pierce Legacy Scholars Program, regional alumni scholarships and resident tuition rates are just a few ways the Association helps encourage and foster the family tradition of choosing Southern Miss. Additionally, the Alumni Association manages and awards scholarships to incoming freshmen through the Elmo Lang Memorial Scholarship and the Mary Loraine Peets Buffett Scholarship 

Applications must be submitted by February 15 for the upcoming fall semester. Students selected for scholarships will be notified by mail by April 30. Students will be asked to confirm their acceptance of the award in writing to the Alumni Association office by May 15. 

Incoming freshmen are eligible for the Pierce Legacy Scholars Program. Since 2004, the Association has awarded $1,000 one-time scholarships to incoming freshman each year. In addition, incoming freshman are also eligible for Resident Tuition Rates and the Elmo Lang Memorial Endowed Scholarship.

Current students who are members of the Student Alumni Association are eligible for the Powell and Frances Ogletree Endowed Scholarshipthe Past Presidents Council Endowed Scholarship and the Clyde Kennard Memorial Endowed Scholarship.

Female Mississippi residents entering as freshmen and who major from within the College of Arts and Letters are eligible for the Mary Loraine Peets Buffett Scholarship. This $5,000 scholarship is renewable up to four years.

In addition, a number of the Association's chapters award scholarships as well.
