Waites' Commitment Adds to List of Contributors

The generosity shown to The University of Southern Mississippi by Dr. Thad and Gerry Waites is not limited to one department, school or organization.

The Waites’ are members of the Eagle Club, the athletic department’s Circle of Champions and the Alumni Association, even though neither are graduates of the University. A scholarship in the College of Science and Technology and another in the School of Music bears their names and both have served on the USM Foundation’s board of directors.

Now they are members of another elite group as well – Special Gift contributors to the Ogletree House Campaign. The Waites’ $75,000 commitment to the campaign to restore and expand the Alumni Association’s home on the Hattiesburg campus is the second in the Special Gift category.

A groundbreaking cardiologist, Thad Waites and his group were the first in the state with a number of procedures including rotablator, angiojet and atherectomy. Now, his clinic is the first with Cardiac CT, a new procedure that views the heart and arteries without a catheterization. He is a past president and current board member of the Southeast affiliate of the American Heart Association.

The Waites’ also are major contributors to the United Way.
